Man Utd moved to the top of the table after thrashing Bolton 5-0 at the Reebok Stadium last Sunday at the 5PM kick off.

Another hat trick from Wayne Rooney and a brace from 22 year old strike partner Hernandez led Man Utd to a cruising victory over Owen Coyle’s side.

With goals on the 20th, 25th and 68 minutes, Rooney completed two consecutive hat tricks in a row after his three goals against Arsenal in the 8-1 defeat back in August.  The England striker is in the form of his life after also scoring a brace in England’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria last week.

Asked about his form, Ferguson stated that he thinks the 25 year of England player is now “maturing”.  In other words, he thinks that Rooney has now got to the stage where he is more calm and collected on the pitch, with the patience and noose to start attacks and finish goals.

While a thrilling star from a young age (having been England’s star player in the Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006 campaigns), Rooney always looked immature on the pitch and didn’t always find it easy to control his temper.

But with the Man Utd goal scorer turning 25, Ferguson believes he will become a whole new player and all of his previous experiences (including 3 Champions League Final appearances) have turned him into a better all round player – not unlike his 34 year old team mate Ryan Giggs.

In other football results, Manchester City thrashed Wigan 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium after a hat trick from new signing Sergio Aguero on the 13th, 63rd and 69th minute.

I think it’s fair to say that both Manchester teams have signaled their intent and ability this season, while the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are likely to battle it out for 3-6th place.  The problem with Chelsea is that they still have a lot of ageing players in the core of their team (Lampard, Essien, Drogba, Anelka) whilst other first team players such as £50 million signing Torres and French winger Malouda have looked completely out of form in the last 12 months.

Liverpool look like the most likely candidates to finish in a Champions League spot at the moment, however I still think a team built around Caroll, Suarez, Downing and Charlie Adams will fail to keep up with both Manchester teams.  They have a lot of quality players in their side, but they just like world class players (especially in defense) plus Carragher, Gerrard and Kuyt have all been losing pace and effectiveness in the last 2 years.

Funnily enough, I was watching the Last Word and Goals on Sunday last week and a lot of pundits thought that either Manchester Utd or City would win the Champions League this season (asides from Barca). I still think this shows a huge bias to English teams.  Real Madrid are a much better team than either Utd or City, have much better players (Ronaldo, Ozil, De Maria, Benzema, Higuan, Carvalho, Pepe, Cassilas) and have tons of experience with probably the best manager in the world. Remember last year they came much closes to beating Barcelona than Utd plus they are already top of the table in La Liga.
