May 10th 2010 – Betfair Releases iPhone App for its Betting Exchange

Betfair has announced the availability of a new iPhone app providing access to all Betfair’s features.

Betfair is the first UK bookmaker to announce an official launch of an iPhone App on the 3rd generation Apple platform.  The Head of Mobile at Betfair, said, “Betfair’s iPhone App takes advantage of the multi-touch interface and high resolution screen, offering our customers the same core exchange functionality from the main Betfair site.”

Betfair’s iPhone Betting App

iPhone users can now cover or lay teams on the world’s largest sports betting exchange, as well as view the live odds and in-play betting markets.  You can still use the Fan V Fan betting system which has made Betfair so famous, this allows you to negotiate the odds of your bets. Once another punters accepts your odds than the bet is processed.  The Official Betfair iPhone App provides better performance than any existing browser-based products.  Unfornately Betfair has not yet made poker available to iPhone users yet, however every poker site developed Mac Poker friendly clients eventually so Betfair might do so in the future.

Growth of Mobile Betting Markets

The success of the Apple multi-media iPhone is palpable; with the recent release of the iPhone 4 becoming the 4th model in the series since the original iPhone launch in January 2007.

Mobile betting has become a massively growing industry.  Revenue from mobile betting increased 50% from last year, according to Charles Palmer, head of mobile betting at Betfair.  Palmer said, “Our registered mobile users increased 40% in 2009 and continued investment in the mobile channel has contributed to a 50% increase in mobile revenues.”

Unfortunately the iPhone Betfair App is only available to UK and citizens of Ireland, it also utilises the iPhone’s GPS technology to ensure that only those in the jurisdiction can use it.
